In this workshop we will approach in a practical way the aesthetics and workflows of kinbaku photography and produce beautiful results through teams, pushing each member to improve. It is aimed at riggers, models, photographers and assistants. All of them will learn a lot, improve and develop new skills. After this workshop, the students will be able to produce outstanding results in kinbaku photography.
We will look at what really makes a good kinbaku photo beautiful and what are the basic tools needed to achieve and appreciate that beauty, how to use them and what very basic mistakes everybody is doing when trying to take pictures of Kinbaku. The aim of the workshop is to learn how to apply all this knowledge to improve our own ties, shoots, modelling and workflow.
This workshop will be held in English.
PROGRAM:
- A theoretical part with projections during the morning, in which we will analyse the work of different personalities within the world of kinbaku and photography.
- A theoretical-practical part in which we will establish a series of parameters that will define set, lighting, history and direction, as well as basic notions of how to communicate between director, assistants, model and rigger.
- A demo session in which the participants will be able to see the creative process, the way of working and all the elements of the session working together.
- A theoretical-practical part about the important elements in the aesthetics of shibari, how to show them and how to communicate with the director of the session. We will work with different element from Wabi sabi aesthetics school as fukinsei, kanso, yugen or koko.

In the West, there is a misconception that kinbaku shoots are not real shoots whereas in Japan they can be very intense, especially for the model. That’s why we will offer a lot of information from the perspective of rope bottoms as well.
We will talk about the communication process between all participants, pre-production, production and post-production, a little bit about the crew, a lot about the direction and all the time about the aesthetics. This workshop is one of our favorites (Zor and Margout) and we consider it a very important topic in relation to kinbaku.
